Darrell Rivers arrives at Malory Towers eager to make friends and prove herself at boarding school, but the first term brings lessons she has not expected. The impressive school on the Cornish coast is filled with strong personalities, from mischievous Alicia to reserved Sally and self-centred Gwendoline. Darrell soon discovers that ability and enthusiasm are not always enough: her quick temper can create problems, and understanding other girls requires more patience than she first imagines. Between lessons, games and schoolgirl adventures, friendships develop through mistakes, loyalties and unexpected acts of kindness. Enid Blyton’s opening Malory Towers story introduces a lively school community and a heroine learning to take responsibility for her behaviour while finding her place among classmates who are equally full of surprises.
