This book is the result of work carried out with the support that the University of Brasília received as a recipient of the Sakura project from the Japan Foundation in 2015. This project aimed to organize and publish a book on elementary Japanese grammar, written in Portuguese and specifically aimed at students of Japanese language courses at Brazilian and Portuguese universities. Brazil and Portugal face a significant shortage of Japanese language teaching materials written in Portuguese, forcing students to seek them (mainly grammar manuals) in other languages, especially English. This shortage is particularly noticeable in terms of books that systematically address Japanese grammar as a foreign language, hindering the development of these students' autonomy in their learning. We often hear complaints from our students about the lack of books in Portuguese that meet their needs to improve their knowledge and learning, which is the main reason that led us to organize this book.
