A funny and heartwarming story about kindness and seeing beyond appearances

Good Condition – visible cover creasing and light edge wear

Another brilliant book telling a heart-warming story, by well-known author David Walliams.  Walliams has been compared to Roald Dahl, and already has a host of other titles in his children’s series, including, The World’s Worst Children trilogy, as well as Fing, Gangsta Granny and The Boy in the Dress which have been made into children’s films.  His many other titles are just as well written and enjoyable.  David is a strong reading advocate for children’s literacy.

This book tells the story of the bond that grows between a homeless man nicknamed Mr Stink, who lives on the bench in the local town park, and of a lonely little girl called Chloe.  Chloe gets on with her father, but aside from that feels like a misfit both at home and in school.  She finds a companion in Mr Stink and as the story evolves we discover that he is also dealing with his own issues in life, but has his canine friend, Princess, who is loyal and always by his side.

It tells of how she decides to shelter him in her garden shed secretly and that sometimes secrets can lead to disaster.  Although sometimes some disaster may become blessings in disguise.  This book shows us that at times looks can in fact be deceiving, and that there is more to Mr Stink than his appearance and smell that meets eye, and the nose.

Walliams’ fun style of writing and quirky made-up names add to his books charm.  David Walliams even has his own dictionary for these bizarre and wonderful words.
