Rene Cloke's colourful illustrations accompany a collection of traditional rhymes and childhood verse in this classic treasury. Familiar characters, animals and imaginative scenes give young readers plenty to notice as the rhythm of the words invites listening, repeating and joining in. The selection moves between playful nonsense, everyday situations and the gentler atmosphere of bedtime, offering different moods within a single volume. Among its verses is Wynken, Blynken and Nod, with its dreamlike journey in a wooden shoe. Designed for reading together and returning to favourite pages, the book combines the pleasures of rhyme with an affectionate illustrated style. It will appeal to families sharing traditional verse and readers who enjoy the nostalgic charm of classic children's book illustration.
