D. R. Neilson presents a selection of his art in a volume that brings together paintings, drawings and accompanying reflections. Rural scenes, horses and sheep share space with coastal subjects and the human traces of work, including a weathered vessel on the shore. The images attend to atmosphere, movement and the texture of familiar places, while the text offers a closer encounter with the subjects and the artist's way of seeing them. Reproductions and smaller sketches create a varied rhythm through the book, inviting both browsing and sustained looking. First published by A. H. & A. W. Reed in 1967, it offers a distinctive period collection for readers interested in landscape painting and the observation of everyday life.
