The other birds have eggs to care for, but Duck has none until he discovers an unusually large, green-spotted egg of his own. Delighted with his find, he watches and waits while the others look on with doubt and amusement. As their smaller eggs begin to hatch, Duck's patient attachment to his odd discovery continues, building towards an unexpected arrival. Emily Gravett uses expressive illustrations and a playful page design to turn a simple situation into a humorous story of anticipation. The Odd Egg offers young readers an inviting mixture of repetition, difference and surprise, celebrating the pleasure of looking closely and waiting to see what might happen next.
