Ruby is struggling to welcome the news that her mother is having another baby. With her best friend Sarah seemingly finding someone else to spend time with, familiar relationships no longer feel as secure as they once did. The arrival of the mysterious Magda and a small, unusual gift gives Ruby something different to think about, introducing the possibility that life may contain surprises beyond the changes she resents. Catherine Bateson combines an everyday story of friendship and family uncertainty with a gentle sense of magic. As Ruby tries to understand what is happening around her, the wish pony becomes part of a journey towards hope, imagination and a more generous view of the future.
