A wartime bomb uncovers a much older crime
Good Condition - Covers are browned, soiled and rubbed with corner creases and edge wear. Light spotting is present. Bantam edition, April 1981.
An unexploded German bomb destroys three houses decades after the war, and the clearing of the wreckage reveals human remains hidden beneath the old foundations. What first appears to be another consequence of wartime destruction becomes a murder case when closer examination exposes details that cannot be explained by the bombing. Detective Inspector C. D. Sloan must investigate a death concealed by the passage of years, including the troubling discovery of an unborn child. Catherine Aird uses the dramatic unearthing of the past to build a traditional crime puzzle, challenging Sloan to recover evidence and motives from a time when someone believed the destruction had provided a permanent hiding place.
