Persepolis (German Edition) by Marjane Satrapi

A graphic memoir of revolution, exile and identity

Marjane Satrapi recounts her childhood in Iran as revolution transforms the country and war reshapes everyday life. Growing up within an outspoken, educated family, she tries to understand the restrictions, conflicts and contradictions surrounding her while finding ways to express her own independence. Adolescence takes her to Austria, followed by a return to Iran that raises further questions about belonging and the life she wants to lead. Satrapi's stark black-and-white drawings bring humour, grief and personal observation to a history often described from a distance. This German-language edition of Persepolis follows a young woman's changing understanding of family, freedom and identity across the experience of leaving and returning home.
