The Apocrypha: The Lutheran Edition with Notes by Edward A. Engelbrecht

Explore ancient religious texts through a Lutheran perspective

Edited by Edward A. Engelbrecht, this edition presents the Apocrypha with study material intended to explain the texts and their historical setting. Introductions, notes, articles, maps and other reference features help readers consider writings associated with the period between the Old and New Testaments. The commentary places their reception within a Lutheran perspective, making the volume useful for exploring both the literature and the tradition of reading it. Rather than offering the text alone, the book provides context for names, events and themes that may be unfamiliar. It is a substantial study companion for readers interested in ancient Jewish literature, biblical background and the place of the Apocrypha in Christian history.
